The Oxygen Mask Project emerged from the lived experiences of our founding members, Elena and Ona, who identified a critical gap in the support system for Black parents embarking on the neurodiversity journey.
As Black parents navigating the realm of neurodiversity, they encountered challenges in their interactions with schools, professionals, and even within their own community. The formation and growth of their peer support network was gradual, organic and unintentional.
More Than Just A Project
Ten years later, Black parents undertaking the same journey have expressed that whilst the information on neurodiverse conditions has advanced, the advice, welfare and guidance available for Black parents and carers remains insufficient.
The Oxygen Mask Project was created to fill these gaps and establish a sanctuary for safe conversations, authentic exchanges and genuine support. More than just a project, it is a community-driven force forged through connections. Our platform facilitates candid conversations through podcasts, videos, and live events. The Oxygen Mask Project also provides expert advice and resources.
